"Smile makeover" is not a treatment. It is a plan that combines several treatments to change how a smile looks, and what goes into it depends entirely on what is actually wrong. That is why quoted prices in Delhi range from around ₹20,000 to well over ₹6,00,000 - not because clinics differ that much, but because the plans do. Understanding the components is the only way to judge whether a quote is reasonable, and the most useful thing this guide can tell you is that many people need far less than they are first offered.
What the components cost
- Scaling, polishing and professional cleaning: ₹1,000-₹2,500. Occasionally the entire answer.
- Professional whitening: ₹8,000-₹22,000. Fixes colour, changes nothing about shape or position.
- Composite bonding: ₹6,000-₹12,000 per tooth. Reshapes chips, small gaps and uneven edges. Reversible, done in one visit.
- Composite veneers: ₹6,000-₹12,000 per tooth. Porcelain veneers: ₹15,000-₹30,000 per tooth. Porcelain lasts longer and resists staining; composite is repairable and cheaper.
- Crowns where a tooth is structurally damaged rather than just cosmetically imperfect: ₹4,000-₹18,000 per tooth depending on material.
- Gum contouring to correct a gummy smile or an uneven gum line: quoted per case after assessment.
- Alignment first, where the underlying problem is position rather than appearance: braces ₹45,000-₹90,000 or aligners from ₹1,50,000.
A full upper-arch makeover in porcelain - typically eight to ten teeth - is where the ₹1,50,000 to ₹6,00,000 headline figures come from. A great many patients do not need one.
The question worth asking first
Is the problem colour, shape, or position? They have completely different answers and completely different prices.
If it is colour, whitening at ₹8,000-₹22,000 may finish the job, and our whitening cost guide sets out the options. If it is shape - a chipped edge, one shorter tooth, a small gap - bonding at ₹6,000-₹12,000 a tooth can be transformative for a fraction of a veneer case. If it is position, veneers are the wrong tool: covering crooked teeth with porcelain means cutting down healthy tooth structure to fake an alignment that braces or aligners would have achieved properly.
That last one is the most expensive mistake in cosmetic dentistry, and it is not reversible. Enamel does not grow back. A patient in their twenties who veneers eight crooked teeth has committed to replacing those veneers every 10-15 years for the rest of their life. Aligning the teeth first and then doing a smaller amount of cosmetic work is slower, usually cheaper, and keeps the teeth.
Why the 3D preview matters more than the discount
Digital Smile Design lets you see the proposed result before any tooth is touched - a simulation built from photographs, a facial scan and a digital wax-up, shown against your own face. Some clinics can also fit a temporary mock-up directly over your teeth so you can walk around with the proposed smile for a few days.
Use it, and use it sceptically. This is the stage to say the teeth look too white, too long, too uniform, or simply not like you. Changing a digital plan costs nothing. Changing porcelain that has already been made and bonded costs the whole fee again. It is also where you find out you need less than proposed - patients regularly look at the preview and realise whitening plus bonding on two teeth gets them 80% of the way, and choose that instead.
How long it takes
Plan on weeks, not days, and months if alignment is involved. Whitening alone is a single session after a cleaning. Bonding is one visit. Veneers are typically three to four visits over three to four weeks - records and preparation, temporaries, then fitting. Anything involving orthodontics adds the treatment time on top, so a full sequence of aligning and then finishing cosmetically can be a year or more.
This matters if you are planning around a wedding. Delhi's wedding season and the demand for last-minute smile work arrive together every winter, and there is no honest way to compress a veneer case into a fortnight. Start three to six months out.
Warning signs in a smile makeover quote
- A plan for veneers on every visible tooth when only two or three are actually the problem
- Veneers offered as the fix for crooked teeth, with orthodontics never mentioned as an alternative
- No X-rays taken - decay and gum disease underneath do not disappear because there is porcelain on top
- A single lump-sum figure with no per-tooth, per-procedure breakdown
- Pressure to decide today, or a discount that expires this week
- No discussion of what happens in ten years, who repairs a chipped veneer, or what it costs to replace
The last point is the one patients ask about least and regret most. Veneers and crowns are not permanent - they are long-lasting restorations that will eventually need replacing, and the honest conversation includes that.
The unglamorous prerequisite
Cosmetic work goes on top of a healthy mouth or it fails. Active decay has to be treated, and gum disease has to be stabilised - veneer margins sitting on inflamed, receding gums will look wrong within a year no matter how well the porcelain was made. If you grind your teeth, that needs managing too, or you will chip the new work.
Any clinic that will start cosmetic treatment without checking these first is selling you something rather than treating you. It is not upselling to insist on a cleaning and X-rays before veneers; it is the only way the result lasts.
Getting a realistic number
The only honest quote comes after an examination, X-rays and a conversation about what actually bothers you when you look in the mirror - which is often something much more specific than "my smile". Our cost calculator gives indicative ranges for each component beforehand, and the veneers and smile makeover guide goes deeper on veneer materials and longevity.
We plan smile makeovers with a 3D preview at our Mayur Vihar Phase 1 clinic for patients across East Delhi, IP Extension, Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Noida and Indirapuram - and we will tell you when whitening and two hours of bonding would get you most of the way there. Book a consultation, or send photos through an online consultation first if you would rather start there.
