Professional teeth whitening is one of the few cosmetic dental treatments that is genuinely quick, genuinely reversible in its effect on the tooth, and genuinely worth the money for the right patient. It is also one of the most inconsistently priced treatments in Delhi, and one of the most oversold. This guide gives honest 2026 prices, explains what you are actually paying for, and - the part most guides leave out - tells you who whitening will not work for, so you can find that out before you pay rather than after.
Teeth whitening cost in Delhi (2026)
- In-office laser / light-activated whitening: ₹8,000-₹15,000 for a single session, both arches, about an hour
- Custom take-home tray kit: ₹6,000-₹10,000, worn over 10-14 nights at your own pace
- Combination (one in-clinic session plus maintenance trays): ₹12,000-₹22,000, and the longest-lasting option
- Scaling and polishing beforehand, which is not optional: ₹1,000-₹2,500
- Internal (walking) bleach for a single dark, root-treated tooth: quoted per tooth after assessment
Those are our prices at the Mayur Vihar Phase 1 clinic, and they are for both arches with the pre-whitening cleaning included. That last clause is doing a lot of work - see the next section.
Why teeth whitening charges vary so much between clinics
You will find quotes in Delhi from ₹3,000 to ₹30,000 for something described as the same treatment. Four things account for almost all of it, and only one of them is the clinic being expensive.
- Per arch or both arches. A ₹6,000 quote that turns out to be per arch is a ₹12,000 treatment. Ask this first, always.
- Is the mandatory cleaning included? Whitening gel cannot lift stain through tartar. If scaling is billed separately afterwards, the headline price was never the price.
- Gel concentration and brand. In-office gels run roughly 25-40% hydrogen peroxide against 3-6% in an over-the-counter kit. That difference is most of why one works in an hour and the other does not.
- Whether a dentist is involved at all. Salon and home-service whitening is cheap because nobody examined your teeth first.
What the laser actually does
Here is the honest version, because "laser whitening" is the most marketed phrase in Indian cosmetic dentistry. The peroxide gel does the whitening. The light or laser is there to accelerate its breakdown, and the research on how much it genuinely adds is mixed - several studies find the difference against the same gel used without a light to be small and short-lived.
That does not make light-activated whitening a scam. It is a perfectly good, effective, single-visit treatment, and it is what we use. It means that what you are really paying for is the strength of the gel, the protection of your gums during the procedure, the dentist deciding whether your teeth should be whitened at all, and the aftercare - not the machine. So if one clinic is charging a large premium purely because their light is called a laser, that premium is buying you very little. Judge the quote on the protocol, not the hardware.
"Zoom" is a brand of light-activated whitening system rather than a different category of treatment, which is why zoom whitening cost and laser whitening cost land in the same ₹8,000-₹15,000 band here.
Bleaching and whitening are the same thing (mostly)
Patients ask for both and mean the same thing, and teeth bleaching cost in Delhi is quoted exactly like whitening. Strictly, bleaching uses peroxide to take teeth lighter than their natural shade, while whitening also covers simply removing surface stain by cleaning and polishing.
That distinction is occasionally worth money. A fair number of patients who arrive asking for bleaching have teeth that are not actually discoloured - they have tartar and surface staining from tea, coffee, smoking or paan. A scaling and polish at ₹1,000-₹2,500 gets them most of the way there, and we say so rather than selling the whitening. If you have not had a cleaning in over a year, have that first and then decide.
Who whitening will not work for
This is the section that should come before the price list in every article on this subject, because whitening is not universally effective and the failures are predictable.
- Fluorosis. White or brown mottling from excess fluoride during childhood is common in parts of North India, including families from fluoride-heavy belts of Rajasthan, Haryana and western UP. Whitening can even make the contrast worse by lightening the surrounding enamel more than the patches.
- Tetracycline staining. Grey or banded discolouration from antibiotics taken in childhood is embedded in the dentine and responds poorly. Very prolonged take-home whitening sometimes helps a little; veneers are usually the honest answer.
- Crowns, veneers, bridges and tooth-coloured fillings. These do not change colour at all. If you whiten natural teeth around an existing front-tooth crown, the crown will suddenly look darker and may need replacing - budget for that before you start.
- A single dark tooth that has had a root canal. This is discoloured from the inside and external whitening barely touches it. The correct treatment is internal (walking) bleach, done through the back of the tooth.
- Teeth that are dark because enamel has worn thin and the yellower dentine beneath is showing through. Whitening the enamel does not change what is underneath.

Any clinic that takes your money for a whitening session on tetracycline-stained teeth without warning you first has not examined you properly.
Sensitivity: what to actually expect
Some sensitivity during and after whitening is normal, not a complication. Peroxide moves through enamel into the dentine tubules, and that temporarily makes the nerve more reactive. It typically peaks in the first 24 hours and settles within two or three days.
It becomes a genuine problem in two situations: when whitening is done over an undiagnosed cavity or an exposed root surface, where it can be severely painful; and when a patient with existing sensitive teeth is whitened without any preparation. Both are avoidable with an examination first. We pre-treat sensitive patients with desensitising agents, finish every session with fluoride remineralisation, and would rather postpone a session than push through one that is hurting.
How long results last, and what fades them
Expect one to two years from a proper in-office session, and rather less if your daily routine is working against it. In Delhi the usual culprits are obvious: multiple cups of chai a day, coffee, red wine, smoking, and paan or gutkha - which stains faster and more stubbornly than anything else on that list.
The practical way to protect the result is a small take-home tray kit used for two or three nights every six to twelve months, which costs far less than repeating the full session. Rinsing with water after tea or coffee helps more than people expect. Whitening toothpastes maintain a result; they do not create one.
Home kits, charcoal and salon whitening
Over-the-counter strips and kits contain a fraction of the peroxide concentration, so they work slowly and modestly - which is fine if that is what you want and your teeth are healthy. The problems are the unregulated ones: charcoal powders and DIY abrasive pastes physically scrub enamel away and cannot be undone, and whitening offered at salons or as a home service is performed by people who have not examined your teeth, cannot diagnose the cavity they are about to pour peroxide into, and have no way to protect your gums properly. Gum depigmentation ("gum bleaching")
Worth separating out, because patients search for it in the same breath and it is an entirely different procedure. Dark or patchy gums are usually natural melanin pigmentation, not a health problem and not something whitening gel affects. It can be reduced with laser depigmentation, which is a soft-tissue treatment quoted per case after we see how extensive the pigmentation is. Smoking-related darkening often improves on its own after stopping. If your gums are dark and also bleed or are swollen, that is gum disease and needs treating first.
Timing it around an event
Leave three to four weeks, not three days. The sequence is examination, then cleaning, then whitening once the gums have settled - and you want the sensitivity window well clear of the wedding, not on the morning of it.
